Philmont Scout Ranch - Cimarron, New Mexico
Philmont Scout Ranch, run by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America since 1938, is the ultimate High Adventure Scouting experience with 50 to 100-mile,
12-day backpacking treks in the high country of this 220 square mile ranch. Philmont is the worlds largest youth camp, with 35 staffed backcountry camps and 770 campsites.
Over 22,000 Scouts and Leaders trek on Philmonts 350 miles of developed hiking trails each summer.
Scouts hike the ranch as members of High Adventure Expeditions with crews of 12 maximum, to include 2 or 3 adult advisors.
Over 1-million Scouts from around the world have found that Philmont has something for everyone.
Hiking, rock climbing, panning for gold, fur trapping, black-powder rifle shooting, horses, and burros are but a few of the programs that combine to present a truly unique and unparalleled experience.
Within Philmont's 140,171 acres, where elevations range from 6,500 to 12,441 feet, horizons are unlimited. For 12 action-packed days, crews hike over some of the grandest mountain scenery in the West.
The Ranch is in rugged land set among towering mountains, alpine meadows, and awesome vistas of the Sangre de Christo range of the southern Rocky Mountains in northeastern New Mexico.
Demand for Philmont Expeditions is tremendous, and any Philmont Crew is very fortunate to have this opportunity. Scout participants must be at least
14 years old before arrival OR have completed the 8th grade and be 13 years old before arrival.
